In this exercise all links have the same type and you are not given the precise value for the
link failure probability. Your answers must therefore be based on general results rather
than numerical ones. You may program algorithms for solution with made-up values, if you want.
The exercise has two parts.
Neighboring States
The figure below represents a particular network topology when only one type of link is used.
The tool bar to the right of the map allows you to choose whether you want to remove or add
a link, as explained in the usage instructions.
The pannel to the right of NetEditor shows the value of the reliability of each of the possible
topologies resulting from the addition or removal of a single link.
When you click on the button "Select", one of those values is indicated by an arrow.
You have to click on the particular action
which yields the selected value. (Your answer will be recorded and considered for evaluation.)
Best New Link
Next, consider the following topology, still with all links of the same type. Adding
a new link can only increase reliability of the resulting network. Using the add link
tool, draw the link which you believe will produce the highest increase in reliability.
(Your answer will be recorded and considered for evaluation.)
