The first mandate 2006 – 2009

The Vera Danyluk team has worked non-stop in the past four years so as to defend and promote the interests of all citizens in the Town of Mount Royal. Here are some of its accomplishments.    

MUNICIPAL REORGANISATION AND REGIONAL REPRESENTATION
  • Successful reconstitution of the demerged  Town of Mount Royal
  • Development and implementation of new administrative tools necessary for the smooth functioning of the new Town
  • Strongly defended the interests of Town residents at the Montreal Agglomeration Council.  
FINANCES
  • Maintenance of a tax rate that is among the lowest on the island of Montreal
  •  Annual Budget surplus realized throughout Council’s mandate
  • Systematic reimbursement of the Town debt
  • Significant increase in the Town’s Total Municipal Property values
  • Increase in the investment of the Town  infrastructure
  • Off-setting reductions in tax rates introduced to compensate for increased residential property values and maintain tax levels  
ADMINSTRATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT  
  • Launch of an updated website for the Town which includes the introduction  of on- line transactions
  • Initative introduced to continue promotion of local businesses
  • Hired an Economic Development Director and established  important initiatives designed to further develop the industrial sector and promote new investment
  • Attracted major investors such as : Ultra- Electronics; Allied Research International; Bain Capital/Dollarama; Customs Arrival; Notre Traiteur; Avignor Technologies
  • Launch of a new funding program designed to renovate commercial buildings
  •  Promotional event for the real estate community
  • Major investment made in vehicles  for public works (Heavy equipment, snow removal)
  • Cost reduction of $60,000 realized annually after a bylaw modification on garbage collection
  • Development of a health sector in the Beaumont area  
THE ENVIRONMENT
  • Adoption of the first ever plan for sustainable development in the Town
  •  Adoption of the first tree policy Inauguration and naming of two new green spaces
  • Contest held for the most beautiful tree on private property
  • Launch of garden waste pickup program (phases one and two)
  • Budget increased for the planting and maintenance of trees  Launch of a partnership with the Communauto service
  • Increase in the planting of annuals in the parks
  • Purchase of hybrid vehicles for Public Security
  • Implementation of program to ban styrofoam products in municipal buldings
  • Creation of parking spaces in the center of the Town for residents who use the train
  • Installation of a geothermic heating and cooling system for the library
  • Creation of two new bicycle paths that will link up to the Montreal network
  •  Adoption of by-law changes for better controlling the speed of vehicles  
CULTURAL  
  • Production of the first cultural policy for the Town
  • Creation of the Foundation for Public Art of the Town of Mount Royal
  •  Installation of sculpture in front of the municipal library
  • Creation of an annual Autumn Multicultural Fair
  • Launch of a Library Expansion Project to be completed in 2012
  • Study made of community needs regarding cultural spaces    
HERITAGE AND URBAN PLANNING & DEVELOPPMENT
  • Adoption of the policy on Urban Planning & Development of the Town
  • Public information sessions held with Heritage Montreal on the Town of Mount Royal
  • Installation of the Morris Information Columns in the center of Town
  • By-Law changes made that respond to citizen needs and favour redevelopment in the Town
  • Collaboration with developers to permit the construction of a seniors’ residence in the center of Town
  • Changes made to reduce the time and simplify the process needed for permits
  •  Clearer procedures introduced for the submission of demolition requests  
SPORTS AND RECREATION
  • Contract signed with la Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys to administor the pool at Pierre Laporte school, providing residents with better access
  • Study completed to facilitate the link up of the Town to the Montreal network of bicycle paths
  • Installation of the first segment of a bicycle path in Connaught Park
  • Efforts to realize the artificial surface soccer field project
  • Created the Art Libman Memorial Trophy for sports volunteers
  • Exhaustive Citizen Telephone Survey made regarding their needs in recreation, sports and cultural services (1001 respondants)    
SECURITY
  • Hired a Director of Public Security
  • Established a Public Awareness program on security for seniors
  • Establishment of school corridors to promote children’s security
  • Policy implemented to control graffiti on private property
