Breaking down stereotypes about mathematics and computer science
A capsule created within the frame of the Gender Summit 11 North America 2017, an event co-organized by the Fonds de recherche du Québec and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada.

Nadia El-Mabrouk is Full Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Montreal. She holds a Ph.D. in theoretical Computer Science from the University Paris VII, obtained in 1996. She is member of "Centre de Recherche Mathematiques" and "Centre Robert Cedergren" . Her expertise is in Computational Biology and her main research projects are on developing algorithmic and mathematical methods for comparative genomics. She is regularly involved in the program committee of bioinformatics and computational biology conferences such as RECOMB, RECOMB-CG, ISMB, ECCB and WABI.

A software for the gene order alignment problem (alignment of orthologs), accounting for most genome-wide evolutionary events such as duplications, losses, rearrangements and substitutions.
